Q&A

By Marla Stefanelli

I'm making a fabric box and the directions call for Vilene. What is this?
Nancy K.,
e-mail

Vilene is distributed by Freudenberg Nonwovens, the makers of Pellon. It's actually a complete line of interfacing products available in several weights, both fusible and sew-in.

You can substitute any firm, heavyweight interfacing or stabilizer for this product, either fusible or sew-in depending on your project.

For extra strength, use multiple layers of interfacing, placing the lengthwise grain of each additional layer perpendicular to the last.

From the March 2004 issue of Sew News magazine.
