6. Bandanna Tote 25 minutes
Purchase four bandannas and 1 1/2 yards of 1"-wide webbing for the handles. With right sides facing and 1/2" seams, stitch two bandannas together around three sides. Repeat with the other two bandannas. Determine which set you want for the bag exterior and turn right side out. Slip the other bag inside so the wrong sides are facing. Align the opening edges and baste. Working with both layers as one, turn a 1" doubled hem to the outside and pin.
Cut two 28" webbing strips.Working on one side of the bag, place the webbing ends under the hem, 5" from each side seam; pin. Repeat with the remaining strip on the other side of the tote. Topstitch 1/4" from the hem lower edge, catching the handles in the stitching. Fold up the handles and topstitch the tote upper edge.
7. Lunch Bag 25 minutes
This roomy lunch bag can hold several food containers.
Purchase 1/2 yard of oil cloth and cut one 16" x 25" rectangle. Right sides together, fold the fabric in half to create a 16" x 12 1/2" rectangle and stitch the long edge with a 1/2" seam. Finger-press the seam open. Flatten the tube, centering the seam. Stitch across the lower end; finger-press folds at the side edges. Box the lower corners by stitching 3" from each point (see "Boxing Corners" below). Trim off each point, leaving a 1/2" seam allowance. Turn the bag right side out. Turn under a 1/2" double hem at the upper edge; edgestitch in place. Install a 1/8" eyelet 1 1/2" on either side of the seam. Install six more eyelets, spacing them 3" apart. Thread the cord through the eyelets with the ends on the bag exterior. Thread the cord ends through a cord lock and knot the ends together.
8. Storage Bag 20 minutes
When giving a gift such as marbles or a fishing reel, package it in a fleece bag to store the item(s) when not in use.
Measure around the widest and longest part of the gift. Divide each measurement by two and add 2" for ease and seam allowances. (If the resulting numbers are odd, round up to the nearest 1/2".) Cut two fleece rectangles this size. (For a reel that measures 13" x 14", you'd cut two 8 1/2" x 9" rectangles.)
To create a casing opening, stitch the bag sides and lower edge in the following manner. Use a 1/4" seam and a narrow, short zigzag, backstitching at the beginning and end of each seam. Beginning at the upper edge, stitch 1", skip the next 3/4", and then stitch the remainder of the bag edges. Finger-press the seam open where not sewn.
Turn under the bag upper edge 1", and topstitch in place 1/4" from the raw edge to form the casing. Thread cording through the casing and then through a cord stop. Knot the cord ends together.
