This Is Your Life

Construction

Stitch all seams right sides together using a 1/4" seam allowance unless otherwise directed.

Lay out the photos in the desired order, creating three rows of three photos each.

Stitch a 2 1/2" x 7 1/2" print sashing strip between the side and center photo blocks; press the seams toward the sashing (2). Repeat for all rows.

To create a horizontal strip join two 2 1/2" light-blue squares between three 2 1/2" x 7 1/2" print sashing strips. Press the seams toward the sashing strips (3). Repeat to create a second horizontal strip.

Stitch the three rows of photos to the horizontal sashing strips, matching the seamlines (4). Press the seam allowances toward the sashing.

To create the upper border, stitch one 3 1/2" x 4 1/2" light-blue rectangle between two word blocks (5). Repeat to create the lower border. Stitch the upper and lower borders to the quilt.

To create side borders, stitch one 3 1/2" dark-blue square to each end of one 3 1/2" x 25" print strip. Press the seam allowances toward the dark squares.

Stitch the side borders to the quilt, matching seamlines. Press the seam allowances toward the borders.

Finishing

Press the quilt backing and batting if needed.

Lay the quilt backing wrong side up on a flat work surface and lightly spray with temporary adhesive. Adhere the batting and smooth into place.

Spray the batting with temporary adhesive. Position the quilt top right side up over the batting and smooth in place. Pin, if desired.

Thread the machine with monofilament thread in the needle and all-purpose thread matched to the backing in the bobbin. Stitch in the ditch of the block seams, starting in the center and working out.

Trim the backing and batting so they're even with the quilt top. Baste the cut edges together.

To create a hanging sleeve, fold the 7 1/4" x 28 1/2" print strip right sides together; stitch the short ends. Turn the sleeve right side out; press. Align the raw edges of the hanging sleeve with the quilt upper edge; baste in place.

Bind the quilt using your favorite method.

If you're using directional fabric, make sure to cut it exactly on grain. When printing the word blocks, match the words as close to the fabric as possible.
