Shade Assembly
Attach the shade hardware to the window, adjust the roller to the proper width, and mount it in the window according to the manufacturer's instructions. Remove the roller and measure it to determine the finished shade width.
Measure the window length. Cut the shade fabric 2" wider than finished shade and 15" longer than the window. The extra length allows for the lower edge turn-back to create the scallops and facing, plus the extra 6" length allowance mentioned previously.
Cut the shade backing the exact width of the finished shade and 15" longer than the window. The shade and backing material must be perfectly square so the shade will hang evenly. Use a T-square or quilting ruler to square up the fabric. Another option is to make a full-size pattern and use it to cut the pieces.
Place the backing, adhesive side up, on the ironing surface. Place the fashion fabric over the backing with the right side facing up--1" of fabric should extend beyond the backing on each side. Follow the manufacturer's directions to fuse the layers together.
Fold under the fabric raw edges 1/2" along the shade sides and press. Turn under 1/2" again and stitch in place along the inner fold (2).
Mark a foldline across the shade width, 6" from the lower edge. With right sides together, fold the shade along the foldline. Place the scallop pattern (see Scalloped Edge Pattern) along the foldline and transfer the scallops to the fabric.
Stitch the scallops along the marked lines, stopping and starting the stitching 2" from the fold to create pockets for the decorative rod. Cut out the scallops 1/2" inside the stitched line; clip the curves (3) and press the seam allowances flat to set the stitches.
