Machine Embroidery: Coloring Embroidery
Trim a Towel
Use the colored-embroidery technique to create a bath and hand towel ensemble.
MATERIALS
- 1/3 yard of pale blue batik fabric
- 1/4 yard lightweight sew-in interfacing
- 1/8 to 1/4 yard of bright batik fabric for binding
- Water-soluble or iron-away stabilizer
- Embroidery: Husqvarna Viking Card 35 by Patrick Lose #1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or any design with an outline
- 90/14 universal needle
- 90/14 embroidery needle
- 30-wt. navy blue embroidery thread
- Navy blue all-purpose or bobbin thread
- Polyester sewing thread
- Dual-head fabric markers
- All-purpose fabric inks
- Four 5/8"-diameter buttons per towel
For the bath towel, cut one 9" x 14" rectangle of pale blue fabric, one 5" x 11" rectangle of pale blue fabric for the lining, and one 5" x 11" rectangle of sew-in interfacing.
For the hand towel, cut one 9" x 14" rectangle of pale blue fabric, one 5" x 7" rectangle of pale blue fabric for the lining, and one 5" x 7" rectangle of sew-in interfacing.
Cut the binding fabric into two 2"-wide strips across the fabric width.
Beginning with the bath towel, set up the embroidery machine with an embroidery needle, with the embroidery thread in the needle and matching allpurpose thread in the bobbin.
Using a water-soluble fabric marker, draw a 4 1/2" x 9 1/2" rectangle in the center of the 9" x 14" pale blue fabric. Arrange your fish (or other embroideries) as desired on the machine or the computer, staying inside the drawn rectangle.
