Determine the side on which the draw cord will be placed: the right or left side. Screw the cleat to the vertical center of the window frame, on the same side as the draw cord.
Thread the draw strings: Beginning at the edge the draw cord will hang from, string one end of the cord through all the screw eyes in the mounting board, then down through each ring in the last row. Tie off the cord to the lowest ring. Allowing approximately 3 foot beyond the screw eye for a pull, cut the opposite cord end to that length.
Thread one end of the remaining cord through all but the last screw eye, then down the row of shade rings in the second-to-last row. Tie off and cut the cord as for the first.
Continue threading each row of rings with the draw cords.
All cords should be threaded through the last mounting-board screw eye on the draw-cord side (5).
Using a drill and wood screws, attach the mounting board/shade inside the window frame, being careful to avoid catching any cords.
Pull all the cords as one to raise and lower the shade. To set the folds, leave the shade in its highest position for a few days, securing the cords to the cleat in a figure-eight pattern.
Lower the shade. Braid the loose cord ends together if desired; knot and trim to a uniform length.
Top the shade with your favorite valance if desired.
